Demons and monsters have long been considered dangerous – after all, they not only challenge the normal, healthy and pure, but ultimately subvert the state, capitalism, the bourgeoisie and provoke the ideal of the cis male non-disabled white body.
In the final episode of the dgtl fmnsm FACE series, FACE your demons, Philisha Kraatz, together with performance and multimedia artist Andara Shastika, explore pop cultural representations of demonic and monstrous bodies and analyze these visual archetypes aesthetically and politically.
Using digital tools, participants are invited to enact fantasies of their inner demons. To do so, we will explore concepts such as revenge, curse, rage, haunting, possession, and transformation, and discuss how vengeful spirits, monsters, and supernatural creatures can be reinterpreted in decolonial and queer-feminist ways.
