The episode FACE your features explores the influence of technologies on our understanding of beauty. Who decides what is beautiful – ourselves, society or AI? Who controls the digitized vision towards the body and for what purpose? What role does discrimination like that based on gender and/or race play in this context? How are body ideals and beauty standards influenced by personalized news feeds, quantified selves, and widespread availability of cosmetic surgery? Are these processes leading to a global standardization of aesthetics? The workshop is hosted by Philisha Kraatz, and co-host of this edition is Echo Can Luo.
