How can digitality be used to express the spectrum of one’s own personality in a multidimensional way? What margins does the Internet offer for transforming, developing and challenging facets of the self by putting on different FACEs? FACE your way negotiates the face as a mutable nexus between online and offline personality. The focus here lies on the question to what extent the digital self substitutes the physical one in times of 5G and lockdown, what potentials and challenges arise from the discrepancy and simultaneity of the IRL vs. URL persona, and why the posthumanist play with contrasting appearances is an important practice especially for marginalized groups. In the workshop, participants will develop their own digital FACE by using artistic online platforms to express their own identities.
FACE your way is hosted by Philisha Kay and Tabitha Swanson, prototype of an emerging “online race” which exposes migrant visions of a virtual world through design, 3D renderings, AR filters and synthetic makeup.
