"Say aesthetics over politics translation, say politics over aesthetics translation." (Sawako Nakayasu, Say Art is Translation)

Sarah Ama Duah (b.1989), Bremen is a German-Ghanaian artist based in Berlin. Duah studied Fashion Design at HAW Hamburg and Fine Arts at UDK Berlin in the Performance & Sculpture class. Duah’s practice evolves around sculptural appreciation and explores the dynamics that animate grand narrations of history and their relation to material and immaterial memory cultures and the Afro-diaspora. Duah adopts a multidisciplinary approach to her work, that involves sculpture, performance, dress and the body as form, gesture and potential. Duah was selected as a participant of the Artist Residency program perforcraZe International , in Kumasi (2021). Recent exhibitions include the groupshow „Existing Otherwise“ with a Performance at Redclay Tamale (GH) curated by Solvej Ovesen, Ibrahim Mahama and Isabel Lewis (2022) and a sculpture installation at HKW Berlin as part of the exhibition „Echoes of the brothercountries“, co-curated by Marie Helene Pereira (2024).
