The FACE is probably the most political part of the body: communicative means of expression, gateway of interpersonal relationships and projection surface of socio-symbolic relations. Through new technologies such as FACEfilter, developments such as FACErecognition and trends such as FACEtuning, the meaning of the FACE is increasingly transforming in the 21st century. Dgtl fmnsm FACE negotiates emerging, technologized perspectives on the FACE in an experimental and hybrid workshop format that combines techno-feminist discourse, interactive DIY methodology and desktop-show. Each of the six episodes (between fall 2020 and winter 2021), hosted during the pandemic in a hybrid setting, at HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin with participants on site and simultaneously online on the gaming platform Discord worldwide, focussed on a different dimension of the FACE.
In cooperation with multidisciplinary artists Victoria Jeffries, allapopp, Joran Yonis, Tabitha Swanson Echo Can Luo and Andara Shastika, answers are sought to the question of how each of us can empower ourselves to use current and forthcoming technologies in a self-determined, political and defiant form.
